usbkitty.PNGDo you remember those webcam security applications where you could set your webcam to detect motion and thus alert you if the camera recorded any movement while you were away? Yep, the so-called security features of a webcam. They worked fine. In fact, I would say they worked better than some of us anticipated. You could pick from e-mail updates, recorded video or an amazingly loud alarm for alerts. Now, however, things have happened. Technology has improved, and quite honestly, we expect our security features to be less obvious to an intruder. That’s exactly what USB Kitty is designed to do.

Seriously, what self-respecting intruder would be scared from a USB Kitty? And that’s exactly where he will go wrong. Unfortunately, however, while the concept is pretty cool, it fails miserably.

Check out the following quote from the website and you will see why:

"USB Kitty with two infrared sensors to help its master to alert any intruders by shaking its head and producing many different sounds. When you walk away from your computer and there is somebody want to touch your PC, it will meow, hiss and sing melodies in order to scare away the intruders."

Oooh, I would be so scared of a plastic kitty that hisses, meows and sings to me. While you still have the audio, video and motion sensors, they are good enough for active actions. There’s no way the kitty will e-mail you or call 911 if it detects motion while I’m away. Um, this sort of technology was available years ago. Instead of intruders, this kitty is more of a joke that can probably scare away toddlers. It’s truly sad to see technology go downhill over the course of years.

It’s available for $24 and available immediately.
