toshibapda.PNGI don’t know what to call this. Would it be a Tablet, a notebook or a full blown desktop? So, Toshiba is feeling Nintendo’s design apparently with this PDA + e-Book device. Toshiba is calling it a Dual Display PDA (e-Book) with SD Memory Card.

It’s a concept from Toshiba, and in case you haven’t figured it out, it’s a PDA + e-Book device with dual displays, sort of like the Nintendo DS, except it’s much bigger and will cost a ton more. From the images, it seems you can run Windows CE on it, and it will be available with a stylus. By the way, I should mention this: there’s no way to know how big the actual design is. There are no images that put this “revolutionary” gadget from Toshiba in scale perspective.

It comes with a SD memory card expansion slots, thereby making storage a somewhat of an unlimited option.

Would I want this hybrid? Not really. I personally have a BlackBerry and a lot of people I know also have Palm Treos. Both of these devices offer web browsing and from what I have experienced, these devices are enough to satisfy me as far as reading is concerned. For busy professionals, reading a book is out of question on flights or wherever, since you will always have something to keep track of.

If travelers are out of the question, who do we have left? I hope Toshiba won’t go through the trouble of releasing this device for orthodox book-reading people. Not there’s anything wrong with those people, but if they like to read books, chances are they choose not to be as digitally acute (either because they are not as technologically savvy or because they try to relax from all the gadgets they might have to use in their lives daily) as people who would much rather watch movies or listen to music on long flights.

Potential availability and pricing information is unavailable, of course.

Hello,

By looking at the SD MMC card slots and USB and audio ports, isn't it possible to get a rough idea of the size? I am guessing it is about 5" x 8.5" inches based on the size of the SD MMC cards in the picture.

Aryeh Goretsky

Yep! You dont have to be a rocket scientist. The sd slot was the first thing I noticed which gives the ideia of a 10"-12" notebook.

Aryeh:

You could be right. :)

Carlos:

I guess I'm not a rocket scientist. While both of you appear to be correct, I don't think it can be a definitive measure. Where I live, Sam's Club, Walgreens and Wal-Mart all have photo printing machines with SD slots that are more than 5ft. tall.

Take care,
Ravdeep
