Alright, Dell is finally going to launch the company’s ever AMD based desktop systems later today. Yay? The company will initially offer two systems, the C521 and E521.

The C521 will be based on the now fading BTX layout. It will be equipped with integrated graphics, Windows Media Center Edition OS, 500GB of hard drive space and the ability to upgrade physical memory to 4GB.

The E521 will let users configure their systems more precisely with an option to upgrade their hard drive, optical drive and Dell’s Data Safe technology.

I love Michael Dell’s comments. He said, AMD has shown an "ability to deliver great products" and can offer “capacity and quality” required by Dell. Oh, please, who is he kidding? AMD could always deliver on quantity. It’s not like Dell is replacing its entire Intel product roadmap with AMD now. And AMD has been in the lead for quite some time. I don’t know where he got the quality part from. He is supposed to be an industry icon and he couldn’t come up with better comments. It’s truly a sad day for Dell’s PR.

Dell will start taking orders for the new AMD based desktop computers via its online, phone and retail outlets starting today.

The company has no plans to launch a high-end version of AMD desktops and suggests that consumers seek Alienware for high-end performance PCs.
