Now are you ready to be disappointed? Guess what, Microsoft doesn’t reveal specifications and features for their ultimate keyboard and mouse duo. That’s right. All you see is a flash campaign when you get to Microsoft’s website. Great going, geniuses! Here’s what we could make out from the quick presentation. The Ultimate Keyboard comes with a mouse as well. I don’t know why Microsoft decided to name it “The Ultimate Keyboard” when there is clearly a pointing device with the typing device, but when was the last time Microsoft made sense? The keyboard and mouse designs are somewhat refreshing with a curvature for the keyboard. Both devices are wireless, so we are assuming Microsoft would at least use Bluetooth technology. There also appears to be a motion sensor that lightens/brightens the backlight (the keyboard is equipped with backlight) based on your “mood.” From what we could gather, it just turns up/down the lighting based on whether or not you are in the room. Pricing, specifications and availability are unknown at this point. Microsoft is so trying to become the next Apple with its teaser campaigns. |
Forget Logitech, here’s Microsoft with its very own keyboard. It’s not just any keyboard, it is The Ultimate Keyboard. It always scares me when companies name their products with such oomph. I’ll tell you why. As soon as you read the name, all of a sudden you went looking for features and specifications that would make this keyboard standout. Just by reading the name, you had high hopes for the device, regardless of your liking or disliking with Microsoft as a company. After reading the overview on this device, it just might disappoint you. But hey, if it works for Microsoft, go for it. Who cares if their customers’ hopes are tarnished along the process, right?

Looks cool and obviously also intended for use with Windows Vista and Media Center (which is built-in to some versions of Vista).
I hope that if the keyboard itself has a pointing device (like the current MS Media Center Keyboard see http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=038 ) that this time the pointer is actually useable. Everyone who has commented on this in microsoft.public.windows.mediacenter and used one agrees it is awful. Maybe this is why this 'Ultimate' keyboard includes a mouse.

As much as I dislike Microsoft software, I've always been happy with the hardware. While the points made in the article are valid, they are obviously the words of a MS-hater. I'd like to actually use the keyboard (and mouse) before critisizing it, just as the writer points out that we can't praise it without specs.
MS, though, can be bashed for 'releasing' a product without releasing specs!

Ultimate keyboard? It better be pretty damn good...
Das Keyboard, as mentioned by Ayteebee, really is a peice of work. Not only does it not have any letters (making it suitable for any language), but the keys are weighted differently depending on which finger hits them. A real work of art.
I just looked at M$'s presentation. Of course there's no specs: it's badged as "coming soon". It's like a movie trailer. You can't buy the thing, and the trailer is aimed at home multimedia users, who wouldn't read the specs anyway. Nor are the specs relevent to the presentation.
Furthermore, the only place where the keyboard is billed at The Ultimate Keyboard is in the title tag of the popup presentation. Nowhere is that moniker on the screen.
I don't particularly like MS, either, but the author has gone on a bash with this article. Not what I'd expect.

I do find it ironic that M$ can have a successful hardware line when everything else they claim to create or make improvements on is broken. To me that is like the Yugo car company branding safety equipment and everybody swearing by it. lol
In fact I would bet that "The "Ultimate" in "The Ultimate Keyboard" simply means that when you mistakenly press two key at the same time causing your computer to freeze while throwing a segmentation fault the special back light on the keys turn blue? rofl ;)
OK. OK. Lets get real for a second here the only other viable explanation behind the "Ultimate" in "The Ultimate Keyboard" is this.
Due to the lack of hardware that Longhor...uh er Vist... uh hell just fill in the blank here->X_______________ when they actually release "it".(BTW this will be right before Bill leaves in 2020 yes his release date will be "pushed back" too.) this will be the only keyboard that is pirate/knock off proof. Of course you all know why... because it will require a random 300 letter/number key code to be typed in before it works. Hey!!!!... wait a minute......
