500g_001.PNGRicoh Corporation has added a new camera to its rugged product line, the Caplio 500G. Similar to Ricoh’s other products; the 500G is an 8-megapixel camera that’s shock and water resistance and dust-proof. In addition, it offers a 28mm wide angle camera lens that can capture larger areas that traditional 35mm lens.

The LCD screen features an anti-reflection coating for clearing viewing in daylight hours. The 500G operates on a Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery, but it also has the capability to switch to AA batteries if the rechargeable battery runs out.

All in all, the Ricoh 500G is designed for construction sites, where taking standard digital cameras is unconventional and impractical. Even the ergonomics are designed for heavy duty use with large buttons, which makes it easier to operate the device even when wearing gloves.

With the amount of features and specifications it boasts, it should be a dream come true for harsh environment photographers, but unfortunately, the price of the 500G is not yet available.
